Fifty Years of “Pride, Progress and Partnership” is a celebration commemorating the beginning of a new era of black campus and community life at the University of Pittsburgh sparked by the black student activism (movement) of the late 60’s which led to half a century of progressive successes in diversity and inclusion at the University of Pittsburgh. The Homecoming celebration on October 25-27, 2019 highlights the significance of Sankofa by journeying back to the times and events that served as turning points in race relations on the campus. It also recognizes the transformations that sprung from the activism of the 60’s, and most importantly, lays the groundwork for exploring how to link the past to the future with lessons learned. As a guide to an unrelenting continuum of partnership and progress, this 50 year recognition will serve to inspire a sustainable and impactful future for the African American community at the University of Pittsburgh. Don’t miss it!
